Frequently asked questions

Here are some of the most common questions, along with the complete answers from our support experts.

It’s not surprising that this question is being asked. The first-generation bioethanol fires, the so-called pots and trays, are indeed not entirely safe. When the appliance was refilled while still being hot, a large flame could break out, causing dangerous situations. On the other hand, the second-generation bioethanol fires, the automatic systems, are safe. BIO-O! has specifically dedicated itself to designing a 100% safe system. First of all, the bioethanol reservoir is completely shielded from the burner. As a result, only three centilitres are burned each time. In addition, the system is continuously monitored via numerous sensors by the computer-controlled program. When abnormal things are measured, the burner will automatically go into error and extinguish itself.

While a bioethanol fireplace is mainly meant for ambiance purposes, it most certainly does also provide warmth. On average the system has a capacity of 3.5 kW. This corresponds to a normal radiator of 120cm by 90cm. Which is perfect for well isolated homes.

The combustion of bioethanol releases water vapour and CO2. This is exactly the same as what people exhale. You can compare this as if there were some additional people in the room. So it is key to always provide sufficient ventilation.

Consumption depends on the size of the system. You can burn on average 20 hours with 1 reservoir of 10 litres . This amounts to an average of 0.5 litres per hour. This is equivalent to €1.5 per hour.

Compared to the purchase of a gas fireplace, a bioethanol fire is a cost-effective alternative. There is no need to install a gas outlet, so you only have the cost of the appliance itself. This cost is comparable to the cost of a gas fireplace.

One litre of good quality bioethanol costs between €2.5 and €3. One litre of bioethanol can burn for an average of 2 hours. If you calculate everything, the consumption is comparable with a gas fireplace.

A good bioethanol fireplace burns as good as odourless. So there is a noticable difference between different systems. The smell of bioethanol fireplaces depends on several factors. First, it is important to use a good quality of bioethanol. Furthermore, it is important that the flame can burn freely and does not touch anything. This was often the problem with pots and trays. As the flame decreased after a while because bioethanol was being consumed, it hit the edges, which gave a unpleasant odour. BIO-O! has ensured that the flame always burns on the surface, which prevents the release of odours.
